What
is a POP3 email account?
POP
is the Post Office Protocol, basically a way for a server
machine to store and serve mail for various client machines
(meaning desktop machines like yours) that are not connected
to the internet 24 hours a day. This makes it kind of
like an electronic Post Office Box -- your email is
held in the POP server until you login and retrieve
it.
Why
would you want a POP3 email account?
Sure
there are "free" email accounts available
on the internet, but just like you can get a "free"
flu shot at the community clinic, you'd rather get the
entire service from your own doctor. "Free"
email services make you watch ads while your reading
email, and even worse, they send ads with your email.
To
use your "free" email account, they make you
go to there website, login using a username and password,
wait for the site to load up, click "read new mail,"
then you have to click on the mail you want to read.
Using a POP3 account from Computer Works Home &
Office, you setup your email software once, the software
then checks your email for you, and notifies you when
you have new mail. No more logging in fifty times a
day because your waiting for that important email, your
email software will tell you when you have mail.
What
programs support POP3 accounts?
If
you’re a windows user, you already have an email program.
Windows comes with a program called "Outlook Express."
If you want other POP3 email programs, Eudora
and CNets
download.com has many POP3 programs available for
download..
How
much will it cost?
Unlike
other Internet Service Providers, if all you want is
an email account, that's all we are going to sell you.
